CGGT Information
In Fall 2004, Penn's Department of Computer and Information Science admitted its first class to the newly created Master's Degree program in Computer Graphics and Game Technology (CGGT). The goal of this program is to expose recent graduates, as well as students returning from the industry, to state-of-the-art graphics and animation technologies as well as interactive media design principles, product development methodologies, and engineering entrepreneurship. This degree program prepares students for positions requiring multi-disciplinary skills such as designers, technical animators, technical directors, and game programmers.
Students in the CGGT program use the equipment and resources available through the SIG Center for Computer Graphics. Opportunities for specialization are provided in such core areas as art and animation, creative design, animation and simulation technology, human/computer interfaces, and production management. Students seeking admission to the program are assumed to have a Bachelor's Degree in either Computer Science or Computer Engineering; students seeking admission with non-computer science and/or engineering undergraduate backgrounds will require a minimum of two years to complete the program, usually by enrolling in the MCIT degree first.
Students in the CGGT Program will complete their degree with the following courses:
- 2 Creative Arts and Design courses
- 4 Computer Science and Engineering courses
- 1 Product Design, Development, and Production course
- 1 Business and Entrepreneurship Course
- 1 Core Area course
- 1 Design Project
