Undergraduate Admission
Digital Media Design is a limited enrollment major within the Computer and Information Science Department. The program is designed for a small group of well-motivated and uniquely prepared students. The DMD major leads to a Bachelor of Science in Engineering in Digital Media Design from the School of Engineering and Applied Science. Because enrollment is limited, interested students are encouraged to correspond with us, and if possible, to visit the program and meet with DMD students and the Associate Director.
Students who apply to Penn and to the DMD program are also encouraged to supplement their applications with a portfolio which highlights their artistic skill. The portfolio should be sent to the attention of the Associate Director of the Digital Media Design program, Amy Calhoun.
For more information about the Undergraduate Admissions process at Penn and for application information, please refer to the Penn Admissions website.
Overnight visits are an excellent way to learn more about academic and social life at Penn. If you wish to stay overnight you must contact the Office of Admissions two weeks prior to your visit. Overnight housing is available Monday through Wednesday nights during the months of October, November and February. Students are invited to stay for one evening and should bring a sleeping bag. Students will be housed with undergraduate volunteers, who will offer students an insider's view of Penn. You should plan to arrive at the Admissions Office no later than 4 p.m. to meet your host.
Internal Transfer Admission
Applications for transfer into the DMD program will be considered at the end of each academic semester and will be reviewed by a committee comprised of representatives from each of the three undergraduate programs involved in the DMD major. Because enrollment is limited to 20 graduates per class per year, decisions will be made on a competitive basis. The DMD Internal Transfer Admissions process is open ONLY to current Penn students who have completed one academic year of study at Penn. Students must complete the Computer Science Course, CSE 120/121, and one Fine Arts course prior to applying to the program.
